PROTECTING THE MISSISSIPPI

The Eco Challenge is all about helping our community out. Our team has come up with an idea to impact the community in a positive way. We chose to help endangered and threatened species in and around the Mississippi River in our town.

ENDANGERED
AND
THREATENED

Our team’s topic is about one of the most important rivers in America, the Mississippi. We will discuss the endangered and threatened species of the Mississippi and the causes of their status in population such as invading species alien to the river and human activity in the area.  Some of the endangered and threatened species include, but are not limited to, the pallid sturgeon, higgins’ eye pearly, fat pocketbook, spectacle case pearly, and monkeyface mussel, crystal darter, shovelnose sturgeon, and ligumia recta.

WHAT YOU
CAN DO

Never litter! Ever! If you see someone litter PICK IT UP and tell them to stop.

Don’t use chemicals on your lawn. The runoff can go into drains which lead into the Mississippi River and can KILL animals that drink or live in it. Think about the animals.
